Balázs Garamszegi completed his studies in Earth Sciences (BSc) and Meteorology (MSc) from 2010 to 2016 at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. From 2016 he also worked in several shorter positions in the fields of climate change and forestry in Hungary, including the National Forest Research Institute and the Hungarian Meteorological Service. From 2018 to 2021 he joined and completed the Erasmus Mundus Master Degree Programme in European Forestry at the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Freiburg. He started his work at the Chair of Environmental Meteorology at the University of Freiburg in 2021 for a prospective doctoral research.

Research Interests

As part of his master thesis at the University of Freiburg he investigated the use of satellite imagery-derived spatial forest patterns for modelling and local detection of storm damage. His prospective doctoral research aims to build on these results and explore further less frequently used remote sensing information in relation to severe weather-induced abiotic forest damage.
