Biography

Daniel Fenner studied "Environmental Science and Technology" (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) at the Technische Universität Berlin. From 2014 until 2020 he was research assistant and doctoral candiate at the Chair of Climatology, Technische Universität Berlin. He completed his dissertation on "Heatwaves and urban thermal climates in Berlin, Germany" in summer 2020. From September 2020 to September 2021 he worked as a Post-doc at the Urban Climatology group, Ruhr University Bochum. Since February 2021 he works as a Post-doc at the Chair of Environmental Meteorology, University of Freiburg.

Research

His research expertise mainly lies in the investigation of urban climates, especially the phenomenon of the urban heat island effect and inner-city air-temperature variability, heatwaves and their impacts, as well as the utilisation of observations from citizen weather stations for atmospheric research. During the urbisphere project he is responsible for the implementation of a meteorological field campaign in Berlin, Germany, to study the planetary boundary layer with ground-based remote sensing platforms.
