Biography
Leon Sander completed his studies on Environmental Sciences from 2017 to 2020 at the University of Freiburg (Bachelor of Science). From 2020 to 2023 he studied Environmental Sciences with the elective track Environmental Modelling and Geographic Information Systems at the University of Freiburg (Master of Science). Since 2019 to 2023, he worked as a student assistant at the Chair of Environmental Meteorology at the University of Freiburg. In 2023 he started his doctoral research at the Chair of Environmental Meteorology at the University of Freiburg.
Research
Leon Sander’s research interest is in the assessment of the potentials, siting strategies and complementarities of variable renewable energies (wind and solar energy). In his master thesis he developed a new concept for a prioritization of wind and solar energy capacity expansion. In his PhD he studies the development of optimized methods for a small-scale modeling of solar radiation, which should form the basis for an assessment of solar photovoltaics potentials and their complementarities with wind energy.
