Biographie
Andreas Christen hat an der Universität Basel/Schweiz Geographie mit Nebenfach Chemie und Meteorologie studiert und im Jahr 2005 in Meteorologie mit einer Dissertation zu "atmospheric turbulence and surface energy exchange in urban environments" bei Prof. Eberhard Parlow und Prof. Mathias Rotach promoviert. 2005/06 war er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Ökologie der TU Berlin (Prof. D. Scherer). Von 2006 bis 2013 war er Assistenzprofessor, von 2013 bis 2017 Associate Professor in Geographie und in Atmosphärenwissenschaften an der University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Kanada, wo er auch das “Laboratory for Atmospheric Research on Greenhouse Gas Exchange” geleitet hat. 2012/13 war er ein Jahr lang Gastprofessor in der Gruppe von Prof. M.B. Parlange an der École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Schweiz. Seit 2017 ist er W3-Professor und Leiter des Lehrstuhls für Umweltmeteorologie in der Fakultät für Umwelt und Natürliche Ressourcen an der Albert-Ludwigs Universität Freiburg.
Forschungsschwerpunkt
Als Umweltmeteorologe misst, beschreibt und modelliert Christen mit seinem Team den Effekt von Umweltveränderungen auf Wetter und Klima. Er untersucht und beschreibt die Koppelung zwischen Landoberflächen und der Atmosphäre im Klimasystem, mit Schwerpunkten im Bereich des bodennahen Windfeldes- und der Turbulenz, dem Spurengasaustausch insbesondere von Treibhausgasen und dem Stadtklima. Diese Forschung erlaubt abschätzen und zu simulieren, wie sich Städte, Wälder, und andere Landoberflächen in einem sich wandelnden Klima verhalten und wie sich Veränderungen der Landoberflächen wiederum auf das Klimasystem auswirken. Ein zentrales Interesse von Andreas Christen besteht in der Entwicklung neuer Methoden der meteorologischen Messtechnik, sowie der Analyse- und Vorhersageverfahren.
