Biographie
Andreas Matzarakis, geboren 1960 in Pentalofos, Landkreis Evros, Griechenland, studierte Meteorologie an der Ludwigs-Maximilians-Universität München. Promovierte 1995 an der Aristoteles Universität von Thessaloniki über das Bioklima von Griechenland. Von 1995 bis 2001 war er wissenschaftlicher Assistent am Meteorologischen Institut der Albert-Ludwigs Universität Freiburg und habilitierte über die „thermische Komponente des Stadtklimas“. Von Oktober 2001 bis Juli 2015 war er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Universität Freiburg, wo er im Oktober 2006 zum außerplanmäßigen Professor ernannt wurde. Seit August 2015 leitet er das Zentrum für Medizin-Meteorologische Forschung des Deutschen Wetterdiensts in Freiburg. Von 1996 bis 2014 leitete er die Kommission für Klima, Tourismus und Erholung der Internationalen Gesellschaft für Biometeorologie und war Vizepräsident der Internationalen Gesellschaft für Biometeorologie von 2006 bis 2009. Seit 2016 ist er der Vorsitzende der Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Medizin-Meteorologischen Forschung in Deutschland.
Forschungsschwerpunkt
Seine Forschungsinteressen liegen in der Human-Biometeorologie, Stadtklimatologie, Tourismusklimatologie und Klimafolgenforschung. Weiterer Forschungsschwerpunkt ist die Entwicklung verschiedener Modelle und Hilfsmittel für die Angewandte Klimatologie und Biometeorologie (wie z.B. RayMan Modell, SkyHelios Modell, Climate Mapping Tool und CTIS (Klima-Tourismus-Informations-Schema)).
